Cyanotype printing workshop
Discover the magic of cyanotype printing and cyanotype photogrammes on a half-day workshop on July 5th, 2025.
The workshop will take place in the Allendale Forge, Allendale, from 9:30am until 12:30pm. Refreshments are available during the course from the Forge cafe.
What experience do I need?
This workshop is suitable for beginners and anyone interested in simple photographic printing. After the workshop you will have the knowledge and confidence to do your own printing at home. No darkroom is needed.
What is covered?
This course will cover
preparation of light-sensitive cyanotype paper, including paper choices and chemistry
creation of acetate negatives to make prints from photographs, including scanning and use of digital images
test printing
making beautiful prints
using objects to create cyanotype photogrammes
Who runs the workshop?
Richard Eyers is a photographer and image maker working across the north-east of England. He’s an Artist in the Forge shop, and he works with Charities and community groups across the north east and Scottish Borders. Organisations that he has worked with include the National Trust, Durham Fringe, the Citizens Advice Bureau, Society Matters and The Ridge SCIO.
Do I need to bring anything?
Everything that you need will be provided on the day and you can take away your prints (or collect them later when they are dry).
If you have a particular photo that you want to print, bring along a print or email the image to cyanotype_workshop@richardeyers.photography in advance of the workshop.
It will be useful to bring thin/small objects such as feathers, leaves, lace, threads, beads, buttons and so on to experiment with.
This is a hands-on workshop and there is a possibility that light-sensitive liquids may mark clothing. Gloves will be provided when using the liquids.
