In 2024 and 2025 Richard covered the four year old Durham Fringe Festival, documenting performers, shows, volunteers and Fringe-goers, and supporting the Durham Fringe press and media team.
Photographs by Richard supported daily social media posts and Durham Fringe press releases. Feedback was all incredibly positive, and the photos were also picked up by some of the acts, promoting their work on Instagram and Facebook.
Richard’s photographs also supported the 2025 Durham Fringe Festival evaluation report.
In December 2023 the UK government cancelled controversial plans for a hydrogen heating trial in Redcar, Yorkshire, due to ‘lack of H2 supply’. The cancellation was a victory for Redcar residents, some of whom had raised concerns that they were at risk of becoming unwilling “lab rats” for a technology that experts believe will never take off in the UK.
Richard met campaigners and supported them with photographs for their media campaign.
In November 2020, during national lockdown, Project Genesis Ltd submitted an application to build an incinerator 300 metres from the nearest housing in Consett, County Durham. The community in this former steel town cemetery together and worked tirelessly to raise awareness and generate objections.
In February 2024 a High Court appeal to build a new waste incinerator was dismissed.
Richard documented the early protests against the proposal, providing photographs in support of the campaign.
Work since 2023, inspired by and documenting the wonderful men and women of the St Abbs independent lifeboat on the Scottish Borders.
